Art 138 (Fracture and Meaning)
Throughout my work on still life, I attempt to decipher the elements that composes my persona. Working from memory, photograph or life, I lead my practice into the composition of expression and representational presence in forms that are evident to my viewers. Visually, the components of these still lifes provide suggestions of emotion, representation and identity. Through these structures, my current interests can invite an insight through which one can ask questions rather than receive a structured answer. Ultimately, I unravel my technical art process to ask a question to my audience: How can we retrieve illusionary guidance from objects that ask and suggest observance from us?
If given the award being offered, I will be able to continue executing my series of painting on photo that will continue to redefine and structure my questions on identity and relation to the process I am undertaking. My influences are currently within the lines of Jan Groover, Richard Diebenkorn, Giorgio Morandi, Joan Brown, Alfred Stieglitz and James Baldwin. Through this opportunity, I will have the ability to gain a routine of practice and discipline by continually seeking to visualize and structure individual thoughts within my art.
