This project took the form of a concert on 9 March 2014 at the UCSC Music Recital Hall. My main goal for this concert was to demonstrate the wide range of music that can be created with percussion, to show percussion's ability to successfully "adopt" pieces written for other instruments, and to share the work that I have been doing over the past four years at UCSC. By presenting a program featuring a combination of my own recorded works (all featuring some kind of percussion), pieces written specifically for me, pieces idiomatic to the instruments, and pieces written before the invention of the instrument (marimba in this case), I aimed to provide a positive and dazzling exposé for the somewhat unknown world of percussion -- this as opposed to the world of drum set, which is quite known. By showcasing the diverse application of percussion, I wished to also showcase my own diverse pallet of interests, from esoteric atonal music to Baroque preludes to pop songs and movie music.
